Overhaul update
Scraping and painting continues; we have now started behind the cylinders, this area being more accessible following the removal of the slide bars. Once the frames are on the jacks with the wheels dropped out, accessibility will be even better.
Following the straightening of the cabside rear angle and replacement of corroded metal, this component has been refitted.
The left hand lower cabside is to be removed to allow below-floor access, so the many rivets securing it need to be drilled out – carefully to avoid damage to the sidesheet. Note the round-headed setscrews securing the angle panel to the sidesheet, still in white paint.
The reverser has now been dismantled for cleaning, painting and inspection. Some wear has, not unexpectedly, been found and this will be eradicated prior to reassembly.
