Overhaul update 16th September 2021 was the first day of the SVR Autumn Gala, and several of the Fund’s working party were otherwise engaged on sales stands; we’re a multi-skilled group in the SMF! But it meant that only two were available in the workshop working on the engine.

By 6 December, the blow hole in the flange for the manifold mounting had been built up with weld.
The repair has now been ground flat, but needs final dressing.
Inside the inner firebox, work on repairing oversize stay holes is in progress.
It was noted previously that the superheater header had developed cracks across the bridge between two element seats. It is now back from specialist welded repairs and awaits hydraulic testing.
A start has been made on trial fitting the cylinder cladding. This section covering the right hand cylinder was newly made in replacement for the badly wasted original.
This particular piece fits around the back of the rear valve chest; that is the cylinder flange mounting to the main frame to the right. It was a difficult item to get into place around lubrication pipes and required the temporary removal of a support bracket for the running plate above.
