Overhaul update
Less preparation and painting was achieved today as our two people coming by train from Kiddermister were severely delayed by a fallen tree across the line.
They did though arrive in the afternoon and got on with the work of component painting and cleaning and scraping the Right Hand leading coupled wheel.
This contraption is the damper control gear from the cab, removed and awaiting attention
The last of the rivets securing the cab sides have been ground and drilled out, and almost everything else holding the cab to the frames removed or disconnected. It is anticipated that next week’s working party will see the cab completely free and ready to be lifted off as a unit, rather than in pieces as originally planned.
Some detail of work done previously: the reach rod (right) disconnected from the weighshaft (left), all pins, nuts and bolts securing the latter loose to allow its ready removal when the time comes.
The reverser assembly removed some weeks ago spent the entire day in the components cleaner, such was the amount of grease and dirt it had acquired over the years.
