Overhaul update
We again start in the boiler shop, and look at the bottom of the boiler front ring, at the top of the photo.
The recent checks for thickness mostly showed no issues, except for this small section where smokebox char had begun to corrode the platework. The section has been cut out and an insert will be welded in.
At the firebox end, the wasted section area at the rear of the copper sidesheet has been ground.
Ready for the thickness to be returned to normal by copper welding.
Back on the frames, the horn guide has been final riveted to the replacement frame section and the horn clip bedded and fitted.
This completes the riveting work to the frames, but the cab remains to be done.
More parts to be refitted or, in the case of the copper lubrication pipework to the left, replaced. On the right are the sandbox filler pipes to the two leading sandboxes mounted between the frames. They are in good condition requiring only a minor rub down prior to fitting.
The painters at work again, this time eliminating the grey primer from the frames and returning them to a proper black!
Among the fruits of their work are all four axles. The LMS painted the areas inside the frames, including the axles, vermillion, and our axles have received their final coats.
