Tender brake adjuster rod in the lathe, after welding before turning.
Tender brake adjuster rod in the lathe, during turning.
Tender brake adjuster rod in the lathe, after turning, ready for thread cutting.
Loco brake adjuster, assembled. We usually keep it disassembled as it takes up less space that way! It is nice and straight now, before all of this work was carried out, we assembled it and found that the threads were so worn it had a distinct banana shape!
Blair and Josh's new turnbuckle and locknuts. The old one, marked 'scrap', is in front of it. One thread is a left hand and the other is a right hand, so when the turnbuckle is turned the rod is shortened or lengthened over its entire length, thus moving the brake linkage and so adjusting the brakes.
Tender brake rods just back from the welding bay and ready for turning.
