In the boilershop, many stays have been fitted to the backplate – and there’s been a delivery!
Many more stays are now fitted to the backplate. Note the pneumatic drilling machine to drive the reamers.
A closer view - the newly threaded hole top right is somewhat larger than the others in this view and will need a commensurately larger stay.
And seen from inside the firebox. The repairs to the top corner seen previously are completer – and invisible.
The back row of crown stays in place and nutted.
New stays, all labelled for size and position, await fitting.
A selection of reamers for slightly different sized holes, and obviously all have been used.
A delivery! The north end of the paintshop has become the temporary home for the 21 new large tubes for the boiler.
The tubes as seen from the other end. The wrapping around the ends is to protect the threaded part of the tubes which screw into the front of the copper firebox.
