Overhaul update
Brake hanger brackets removed from the frames following drilling out the securing rivets.
Parts of the spring, hanger and bracket are visible within the frames, as well as the pinned Horwich hornguide stretcher.
The four hanger brackets removed so far. Each is marked for its location. Those for the leading wheelset are rather inaccessible behind the cylinder back covers.

The structure is bolted to the existing frames to ensure alignment when it is welded up solid.
It will then be removed, the wasted frame sections cut away.
Then the new sections and dragbox all bolted into place to ensure accurate alignment as the new frame sections are welded into place.

The Fund’s working parties have begun refitting lubrication pipework and checking that all piping, unions and non-return valves are clear and working, and oil is arriving where it’s needed.
